William Dean Harris, 73, of Leasburg, passed away, Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Dixon Nursing Home & Rehab.
On September 16, 1950, William was born to the union of Delbert Arthur Harris and Marie Gertrude (Huffman) in St. Louis, Missouri.
William was a graduate from Ritenour High School in Breckenridge Hills, Missouri.
After graduating from high school, William was drafted into the United States Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War. William's honorable military service was unfortunately cut short after he suffered injuries from mortar attacks that would cost him his leg.
William enjoyed playing chess, reading and writing. Some of his fondest memories came from spending time with his mother, Marie, playing dominos and cards. He cherished his mother very much. William also enjoyed playing games with his siblings and his own children and grandchildren. He was also known to be a tinkerer, but he was mostly good at taking things apart and not necessarily putting them back together.
William was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Marie Harris; two sisters, Doris Marie Kitcher and Wanda Faye Harris; two wives, Kathaleen Harris and Becky Jo Harris; one daughter-in-law, Stacie Harris.
He is survived by his son, Christopher Shane Harris of Imperial; his daughter, Shannon Kathrene Maxedon of Waterloo, IL, his sister, Elizabeth Jean Harris of Cuba; his brother, Delbert Arthur Harris Jr. of Springfield; five grandchildren, Kaelee Marie Albritton, Matthew Christopher Albritton, Ian Michael Maxedon, Stasja Nicole Harris and Sarah Shae Harris; other relatives and many friends.
In keeping with William's wishes, he will be cremated and his remains with be interred at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia at a later date.
The family has asked that donations be made to the
Gary Sinise Foundation.
