Walter J. "Walt" Daehn of Cuba, Missouri was born to the union of Walter and Anna (Leicht) Daehn on May 8, 1917 in Jefferson County, Missouri and left from this life on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Harry S. Truman Veterans Memorial Hospital in Columbia, Missouri at the age of 97 1/2. Walt was united in marriage to Norma F. Rector on July 19, 1958 and to this union three children were born James, Elizabeth and Shannon. Walt owned and operated for many years Walt's Auto Service and Walt's Lock Service. He honorably served his Country in the U.S. Army during WWII, was a longtime parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #8920, Cuba VFW Post #7147, American Legion Post #522 and the Disabled American Veterans. Walt always helped and served others in this community. He was a 47 year member and served 17 years as Fire Chief for the Cuba Volunteer Fire Dept., 30 years as a Crawford County Fair Board Member and served 17 years as a Council member for the City of Cuba. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Walt is preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers Frank L. and Clyde Daehn; two sisters Bernice Bast and Eileen Hollrah. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his three children James and wife Melissa Daehn of Cuba, Missouri, Elizabeth and husband Thomas Kent of Ashland, Missouri, Shannon and husband Ron Lang of Owensville, Missouri; five grandchildren Dustin Daehn, Andrew and Brian Kent, Connor and Hunter Lang; one step-grandson Thomas and wife Pennie Kent; one great-grandchild Logan Kent; three sisters-in-law Elinor Snelson of Cuba, Missouri, Glenda and husband Gary Warnhoff of Ashland, Missouri, Virginia and husband John William Apperson of Granite City, Illinois; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a host of many friends. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. at Mizell Funeral Home 904 W. Washington St. Cuba, Missouri. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Rev. Rich Boever as the celebrant. Interment with full military honors will be follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. If desired, memorials would be appreciated to the Disabled American Veterans. The Mizell Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Daehn family.
