Vince L. Wood of Sunset Hills formerly of Cuba was born December 16, 1925 at Eldon, Missouri to the union of Lacy Lenore and Mary (Nee: Perkins) Wood and left from this life on Monday, September 22, 2014 at his home in Sunset Hills, Missouri at the age of 88 years. Vince was united in marriage to Annabelle R. Williams on May 6, 1950 at Wichita, Kansas and to this union seven children were born; Jeffrey, James, John, Kathryn, Salome "Sally", Suzanne and Joseph. Vince worked as a journalist for the Community Press in West County for many years before founding the Lafayette News also located in West County. Vince retired in 1985 from the St. Charles Banner News at the general manager. In 1985 after retiring Vince and Annabelle moved to Indian Hills Lake. Vince was a dedicated member to the Cuba Knights of Columbus Monsignor C.J. Hornsey Council 8920 and served as Past Grand Knight and the Faithful Navigator. Vince was also a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church while living in Cuba. Vince enjoyed hunting, camping, floating, boating, playing horseshoes and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. Vince always read the daily paper so that he could keep up with all the current news and sports. What Vince enjoyed most in life was spending time with his family and friends. Vince was a loving son, brother, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law and friend. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Vince is preceded in death by his parents, wife Annabelle Wood, one son James "Jim" Wood, sister Vinita and husband William Max Voight and other relatives and friends. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy is his loving children; Jeffrey and wife Debbie Wood of Springdale, Arkansas, John Wood of Springfield, Missouri, Kathryn "Kathy" Wood of Crestwood, Missouri, Salome "Sally" Engle of Wildwood, Missouri, Suzanne "Suzy" and husband James Burnley of Chesterfield, Missouri and Joseph "Joe" Wood of Springdale, Arkansas, twelve grandchildren, five great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 24, 2014 from 5:00 till 8:00 PM at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington, Cuba, Missouri. Celebration of Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, September 25, 2014 at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, 415 W School Street, Cuba, with Father John Patrick Day as celebrant. Honored to serve as pall bearers will be Nathan Engle, Anthony Engle, Christopher Senteney, Clayton Burnley, Eugene Pfeiffer, Louis Hagene and Pat Wolfmeyer. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cuba Food Pantry in Vince's memory. Interment and prayers will follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.
