Verna Christina "Chris" Smith of Cuba, Missouri was born Tuesday, January 7, 1969 at Sullivan, Missouri to the union of James Henry and Verna Faye (Nee: Dotson) Gruver and left from this life on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 44 years. Chris was united in marriage to Jay Smith on February 14, 1997 at Steelville, Missouri. She worked for many years as a Home Health Care Aid and attended the Evangelical Holiness Church of Cuba. Chris enjoyed crocheting, taking pictures, being in pictures, fishing and hunting. What meant the most to Chris was her family and spoiling her grandchildren. Chris was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, great aunt, sister-in-law, niece, cousin and friend of many. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. Chris is preceded in death by her father James Gruver and other relatives and friends. Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy is her husband Jay Smith of Cuba, two children Merissa Enke and friend Mike Davis of Cuba and James Thomas "Tommy" Enke of Hutchinson, Kansas, four grandchildren Desiree, Madison, Makinzy and Mike Davis, Jr. "MJ", mother Verna Gruver, three brothers James Leon and wife Kathy Gruver, William "Billy" and wife Eutonna Gruver and Herman Wayne and wife Amy Gruver, one sister Vicky Lynn Bailey and husband David all of Cuba, uncles and aunts; Jack and Sharon Gruver of Cuba, Betty and LeRoy Hoskins of Cuba, Shirley Gruver of Desoto, Louise Lause of Cuba, Arlene Rayle of Desoto, Nellie Studdard of Pea Ridge, Peggy Names of California, Connie and husband Alex Combs of Bourbon, Lula and Richard Doyle of Cuba, Rosalie and Allen Littrell of Owensville, Pam Simpson of St. James, Daniel and Kathy Dotson of Cuba, Marcus and Shirley Dotson of Cuba, Linda Dotson of Cuba and Geri and Harry Schuster of Cuba,nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and many many friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. till 1:00 PM at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington Street, Cuba, Missouri. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2014 1:00 p.m. at Mizell Funeral Home with Bro. Don Mitchell officiating. Special music will by "I'll Meet You On The Other Side of Jordon" by Bro. Don Mitchell and Bro. Don Turnbough and "Before the Roses Bloom Again" by Janet Woods. Honored to be serving as pall bearers is Brad Gruver, Ryan Limberg, Caleb Loucks, Drew Weems, Billy Smith and Brandon Limberg. Interment and prayers will follow at the Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family for final expenses. The Mizell Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Smith/Gruver family.
