Usar Ret. Chaplain William A. 'Bill' Self

USAR Ret. Chaplain (Col) William "Bill" Amos Self was born January 11, 1929 at Florien, Louisiana to the union of Lucy Jane (Nee: Self) and Willie D. Self and left from this life on Sunday, February 05, 2012 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 83 years. Bill spent 30 years as a Chaplain in the United States Army Reserves, pastored for 36 years in Texas, Arkansas and Missouri, worked 30 years in education, working last for the Pattonville School District in St. Louis, Missouri before retiring in 1989 and then moving to the Cuba area, where he enjoyed his farm and raising sheep, goats and other animals. Bill was known for having the greenest pastures in the county. Bill was a loving son, brother, brother-in-law, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, great uncle, cousin and friend. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Bill is preceded in death by his parents Lucy and Willie Self, three brothers, one sister and other relatives and friends. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving wife Sylvia Self of Cuba, Missouri, two son Stephen Self of Minnesota and David and wife Ania Self of Tempe, Arizona, one grandson Eric Ryan Self, sister-in-law Helen Self of West Monroe, Louisiana, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation Tuesday, February 7, 2012 from 5 till 8 PM at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W. Washington, Cuba, Missouri and Wednesday, February 8, 2010 from 5:00 PM till service time at the Rolla Church of the Nazarene. Funeral service 6:00 PM Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at the Rolla Church of the Nazarene, 1901 E 10th St., Rolla, Missouri with Rev. Jonathan Young officiating. Honored to be serving as pall bearers are Mike Tummons, Michael Baldwin, Neil Walters, Richard Rector, William Chapman, Kevin Mattson and honorary pall bearers are Ben Littrell and Stan Storey. A second visitation will be held Saturday, February 11, 2012 from 5 till 9 PM at the Warren Meadows Funeral Home, 355 S Capital, Many, LA. Funeral service 2 PM Sunday, February 12, 2012 at the Meadows Funeral Home, Many, Louisiana. Interment and prayers will follow at the Florien Cemetery, Florien, Louisiana on Sunday, February 12, 2012. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rolla Church of the Nazarene in Bill's memory. The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving Bill's family.
