Thomas J. Hitchcock of Cuba, Missouri was born Tuesday, October 18, 1932 at Neelys Landing, Missouri to the union of Leonard and Myrtle (nee: Walker) Hitchcock and left from this life on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Jefferson Barracks Veterans Hospital, St. Louis at the age of 84 years. Tom was united in marriage to Gail L. Wales in San Diego, California on July 25, 1954 and to this union two sons were born; Jay and Jerry. Tom proudly served in and retired from the United States Marine Corp after twenty four years of dedicated service. Tom completed NCO Leadership School 1958, NCO Leadership School - 1960, Communist Guerr Warefare - 1963 and Drill Instructor School - 1967 while in the Marine Corp. He earned the Korean Service Medal-w/3*, United Nations Service Medal, Nation Defense Service Medal-w/1*, Korean President Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, Vietnam Service Medal-w/1*, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Purple Heart-w/2*, Bronze Star-w/"V", Presidential Unit Citation-w/1*, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal-w/5* and the RVNMUC Gall Cross - w/Palm& Frame . Tom always enjoyed telling stories of his military career. In his spare time Tom enjoyed working on cars, playing music, singing, riding his motorcycle and making jewelry. Tom loved gardening and his roses were absolutely beautiful. Tom was the co-owner of Hitchcock Pallets and More for the last nine years, he also had been a truck driver for Allied Freight and a bonded Private Investigator. Tom's favorite passion was writing and he had one manuscript published and others waiting to be published. Tom was a former member of the Bible Baptist Church of Cuba and a current member of the Delhi Baptist Church of Cuba. Tom was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, great uncle and friend of many. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Tom is preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Myrtle Hitchcock, wife Gail Hitchcock, three sisters Leonna Sides, Norma Hitchcock and Lucille and husband Robert Ridge and other family and friends. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his two sons Jay and wife Cindy Hitchcock of Fulton, Missouri and Jerry and wife Debbie Hitchcock of Cuba, eight grandchildren; T.J and wife Aggie Hitchcock, Eric Hitchcock, Kaleb Hitchcock, Warren Hitchcock, Christina and husband Chuck Wamble, Angie and husband Ron Holland, Sandra and husband George Adams, Jr. and Jessie and husband William Meyers, three great grandchildren Cheyenne, Thomas J., IV, and Arabella, to brothers Tunny and wife Thelma Hitchcock of Pocahontas, Missouri and Ronald and wife Linda Hitchcock of Texas, one sister Lillian Lamb of Florida, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Friday, October 28, 2016 from 10:00 am till 12:00 pm at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington Street, Cuba. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Mizell Funeral Home with Jack Shepard officiating. Special recorded music will be "Leader of the Band", "Nearer My God to Thee" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Interment, prayers and full military honors will be at 2:00 pm Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Fort Leonard Wood Veterans Cemetery, Waynesville, Missouri. Honored to be serving as pall bearers are T.J. Hitchcock, Eric Hitchcock, Warren Hitchcock, William Meyers, Ron Holland, Chuck Wamble and George Adams, Jr. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. James VFW Post 5608 in Tom's memory. The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Hitchcock family.
