Sherman Jack Bess

Sherman "Jack" Bess of Cuba, Missouri was born Sunday, December 5, 1926 at Advance, Missouri to the union of Sherman and Bessie (nee: Murphy) Bess and left from this life on Thursday, August 28, 2008 in Creve Coeur, Missouri at the age of 81 years 8 months and 23 days. Jack was united in marriage to Dorthy Wilson on April 1, 1946 at Cape Girardeau, Missouri and to this union four sons were born Dennis, Kerry, Randall and Brian. Jack retired in 1988 after 31 years as a Bridge and Building supervisor for Terminal Railroad in St. Louis, Missouri. In his spare time Jack enjoyed hunting, riding his 4-wheeler and was an avid Cardinals Baseball fan, but what he enjoyed most was spending time with his family. Jack was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, brother in law, uncle, great uncle and friend of many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Jack is preceded in death by his parents Sherman and Bessie Bess, his loving wife Dorthy Bess, one brother Leon Bess and one sister Drucel Meyers, three brother in laws Ed Rutledge, Lou Weith and John Meyers and other relatives and friends. Those who are left to treasure Jack's memory and to continue his legacy is his four sons Dennis and wife Cheryl Bess of St. Peters, Missouri, Kerry and wife Constance Bess of St. Louis, Missouri, Randy and wife Denise Bess and Butch and wife Christine Bess all of Cuba, Missouri, two brothers Fricklin and wife Shirley Bess of Sunset Hills, Missouri and Jerry and wife Joan Bess of Wildwood, Missouri, three sisters Glenda Rutledge of Fenton, Missouri, Linda Weith of Texas and Marilyn Shelly; one sister in law Marilyn Bess of Herculaneum, Missouri, seven grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 3rd from 5 till 8 PM at Britton Funeral Home of Cuba. Funeral service will be 11 AM Thursday, September 4th at Britton Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Lathum officiating. Interment to follow at Meramec Hills Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. James Boys and Girls Town in Jack's memory. The Britton Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Bess family.
