Scott August Phillips

Scott August Phillips of Steelville, Missouri was born December 29, 1963 at St. Louis, Missouri to the union of James and Patricia (nee: Sutton) Phillips and left from this life on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 48 years. Scott was united in marriage to Joyce Hammond on March 21, 1987 at Alton, Illinois. Scott worked as a drug counselor for the South East Missouri Behavioral in Steelville, prior to that he was a truck driver and had worked as a security officer for Jefferson County. Scott received his associates' degree in Criminal Justice from Jefferson College in Hillsboro, Missouri. In his spare time he enjoyed learning all about WWII, fishing, boating, their two cats and two dogs, but what Scott enjoyed most was helping others and spending time with his family especially his nieces and nephews. Scott was a loving son, brother, husband, nephew, cousin, uncle, brother-in-law, son-in-law and friend of many. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is preceded in death by his uncles Art Tipton, Terry Phillips, Louis Doskocil and John Landis, aunts Dottie Sutton and Shirley and husband Wesley Haws, father-in-law Henry Hammond and other relatives and friends. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving wife of twenty five years Joyce Phillips of Steelville, parents James and Patricia Phillips of Cuba, brother James and wife Bridget Phillips of Wentzville, Missouri, three nieces Breanna Phillips, Amanda & Katie Hammond, nephew Eric Hammond, great niece Avery Hammond, mother-in-law Martha Hammond of Moro, Illinois, brother-in-law Gerald and wife Sondra Hammond of Brixby, Missouri, uncles Ernie Phillips of Grandin, Missouri, David Sutton of Louisiana, Missouri, Bud Landis of St. Bernadine, California, aunts Sue Tipton of Grandin, Missouri, Nancy Doskocil of Cuba and Jody Phillips of Grandin, Missouri, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Friday, July 20 ,2012 at the Free Will Baptist Church, 707 Myrtle Street, Cuba, Missouri with Pastor Don Martin officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to any charity that helps others, in Scott's memory. In keeping with Scott's wishes he was cremated. The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving Scott's family.
