Samuel L. 'Sam' Callahan

January 8, 1946 — February 25, 2018

Samuel L. "Sam" Callahan of Cuba, Missouri was born to the union of Landis J. and Alva M. (Conaway) Callahan on Tuesday, January 8, 1946 in Cherryville, Missouri. He left from this life, surrounded by family, on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia, Missouri at the age of 72 years. Sam proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. After the service Sam was a truck driver for several years. After moving to Cuba, Sam worked for the City of Cuba in the Street Department. He retired from the City of Cuba after sixteen years. Sam and Lillie attended Center Ridge Pentecostal Church and Evangelical Holiness Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Sam loved to play the guitar, sing and teach Sunday school. What he enjoyed most was spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. Sam is preceded in death by his parents Landis J. and Alva M. (Conaway) Callahan; two sisters Fern Callahan and Sylvia Stroup and other family and friends. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving wife Lillie (Watkins) Callahan of the home; seven children Ben and wife Kim Callahan of Dupo, Illinois, Larry and wife Tina Crismon of Barnhart, Missouri, Teresa and husband John Meade of Garland, Texas, Heath Callahan of Ft. Myers, Florida, Dustin and wife Heather Callahan of Parkville, Missouri, Nikki and husband Steve Eads of Kansas City, Kansas, Joshua Callahan of Cuba, Missouri; one brother Steve Callahan of Viburnum, Missouri; six sisters Anita Bridgeman of Steelville, Missouri, Cathy and husband Dwayne Brown of Davisville, Missouri, Sharon Thompson of St. Clair, Missouri, Patricia Reed of Pacific, Missouri, Sondra and husband Johnny Veach of Cuba, Missouri, Sheila Simpson of Cuba, Missouri; twenty-eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and many friends. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 28, 2018 5 till 8 p.m. at Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W. Washington St. Cuba, Missouri. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Mizell Funeral Home with Pastor Don Mitchell and Pastor Harrison Brown, officiating. Interment and prayers will follow at Martin-Trask Cemetery, Cherryville, Missouri with full military honors. If desired, memorials would be appreciated to Shriners Hospital for Children or St. Judes Children's Research Hospital. The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Callahan family.
