Rose Lee 'Mona' Hawkins

Rose Lee "Mona" Hawkins of Cuba formerly of Fulton, Missouri was born November 9, 1934 at Clark, Arkansas to the union of William Ernest and Ona Mae (Nee: Hoskins) Petty and left from this life on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 79 years. Mona started working at a very young age. She worked at the Chase Hotel in St. Louis as an elevator girl and it was at the Chase that she got to meet Elvis and have her picture taken with him. She then went to work at different factories and ended her career working at the Callaway Nuclear Plant in Fulton, Missouri. After retirement Mona kept busy by cleaning houses. Mona attended church every Saturday and Sunday. It didn't matter which religion she just wanted to go to church. Mona loved the outdoors and spent a lot of time camping and hours fishing. She was always working in her yard and mowed her grass with a push mower. Mona always had dogs or cats and at one time worked for a vet grooming horses. She enjoyed dancing; singing and she never met a stranger. Mona was a loving a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt, cousin, sister-in-law and friend of everyone she ever met. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. Mona is preceded in death by her parents William Ernest and Ona Mae Petty, son Mike Luleff, one brother Bob Petty, three sisters Mary Lou and husband Ben Copling, Melba Riley and Joy Petty, brother-in-law Leroy Copling and other relatives and friends. Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy are her two daughters Debra and Denise, grandchildren, great grandchildren, one sister Marilyn Copling of Cuba, one brother W.E. Petty of St. Louis, sister-in-law Sheila Petty of Selina, Kansas, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. No public services were held at this time. The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving Mona's family.
