Roland E. Wood of Leasburg, Missouri was born to the union of Joseph and Gertrude (nee:Jarrett) Wood on Friday, February 6, 1931 at Aurora, Missouri and left from this life on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at Owensville, Missouri at the age of 76 years, 8 months and 14 days. Roland was united in marriage to Katherine Wenzel on October 27, 1951 at Salem, Arkansas and to this union three children were born Joseph, Clifford and Sandra. Roland graduated from Monett High School and continued his education receiving an engineering degree from Chicago Tech University. Roland work for the highway department for many years in California and Missouri. He helped to build 60 plus bridges, several water plants, worked on many highways and helped with the Communication building in St. Louis. Roland had received his 50 year gold membership from the AFLCIO Local 1839 carpenter's union in St. Louis. In Roland's spare time he enjoyed hunting, Sunday afternoon NFL football games (especially the Dallas Cowboys), wood working but most important was the magic tricks and practical jokes he could play on his children when they were young. He also had a great sense of humor, was a giving person, kind hearted and extremely generous to those in need. Roland was a loving son, brother, husband, father, father in law, grandpa, great grandpa, uncle, cousin and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Roland is preceded in death by one son Joseph Wood, his parents Joseph and Gertrude Wood, five brothers, six sisters and other relatives and friends. Those who are left to treasure his memory but to celebrate a life lived is his loving wife of nearly 56 years Katherine Wood, one daughter Sandra Paul of Sullivan, Missouri, one son Clifford O. and wife Wendy Wood of St. James, Missouri, six grandchildren; Evan and wife Aleta Paul, Kristi and Brittany Wood, Courtney Wood Gardner and husband Cory, Jeffrey and Michelle Wood; three step-grandchildren Chuck, Shawn and Hannah Watson, two great grandchildren; Ariana Paul and Mackenzie Gardner; one step great grandchild Chuck Watson, Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Memorial visitation Wednesday, October 24th from 12 Noon till 1 PM with a Memorial Service following at 1 PM with Rev. Scott Perry officiating at Britton Funeral Home of Cuba. Special music for the memorial service; Amazing Grace, The Old Rugged Cross and In the Garden. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association St. Louis Chapter 9374 Olive Blvd. St. Louis, Missouri 63132-3214 in Roland's memory would be greatly appreciated.
