Paul Dean Hogan was born August 29, 1936, on "the Dom's place", a farm located in Crawford County, near Dillard, Missouri. He left this life on July 29, 2023, while a resident of the Cuba Manor Nursing facility, located in Cuba, Missouri at the age of 86.
Paul was the youngest and last surviving child of 8 children born to the union of Melvin Lafayette Hogan and Dicy Mae (Mamie) Sellers. His brothers were Thurston Lavondel Hogan, Harry Lee Hogan, Leonard Franklin Hogan (killed in action during WW Il), and Jesse Howard Hogan. His sisters were: Irma Skull, Deloris Kessler Knox, and his twin, Betty Jean Cowling.
Paul was a devout Christian who will be loved and missed by all who knew him. Heaven only knows the many souls inspired by his example. In 1990, Percy Pascoe the former editor and publisher of the local newspaper Cuba Free Press became a dear friend. He highly esteemed Paul and wrote a personal tribute for him declaring him the “Richest man in Crawford County…” We can unreservedly agree with his declaration in the letter stating, “This man has a disability, but he is not disabled!” Paul had an amazing story of being unable to walk from birth until a miraculous event happened as his mother was reading the bible story of the lame man. Paul’s faith caused him to believe he could walk and holding on to the kitchen table he pulled himself up to his feet, and then walked, at first around the table, and then around the room! Paul was truly an inspiration to all who knew him.
Paul was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church in Cuba, Missouri. Besides attending church, some of the things Paul enjoyed most were bowling, playing chess, and beating his nephew (Terry) at checkers! He was a self-proclaimed "Checker King!"
Paul is survived by numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. He will be sorely missed by all who were blessed to have known him.
