Pat Kalmar Cookson (Marciniak), 88, of Cuba, passed away, Monday, January 8, 2024, at her home in the comforting presence of her loving daughter, Dana Rothberg.
On April 27, 1935, Pat was born in Gary, Indiana. An only child, raised by her mother, Pat (Schuck) Palazzolo and stepfather James Palazzolo.
She earned her education from Lew Wallace High School in Gary, Indiana and then attended college at Valparaiso University in Indiana.
Pat was a devout member of the Cuba United Methodist Church. She was regular in the Monday Quilters Group and well as having assisted in many of the functions put on by the church. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, American Quilter’s Society, as well as the Crawford County Historical Society where she served as their accountant and docent.
In her spare time, Pat enjoyed expressing her many artful talents. She won first place in The Nationwide Needleworker of the Year Award for her exquisitely crafted embroidery screen. Her quilt square was selected to represent Crawford County in the Missouri Bicentennial Quilt that was put on display at the Governor’s mansion. Pat was also a talented painter, doll maker and furniture restorer. Most of all, Pat loved her family and friends dearly. Her beautiful personality and artful nature will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Pat Palazzolo; and her son, Gregory Kalmar.
Pat is survived by her daughter, Dana Rothberg & husband James of St. Louis; four grandchildren, Sarah Rothberg & husband Andrew Cooper, Leah Rothberg, Jess Rothberg & Ashley Kalmar; other relatives & many friends.
Her funeral and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Cuba United Methodist Church in Cuba.
In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to the Cuba United Methodist Church.
Burial will take place at a later date in Meramec Hills Cemetery.
