Orvil Andrew Meade, 90, of Cuba, passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan.
On March 1, 1933, Orvil was born to the union of Earl Meade and Dollie (McGee) in Bussey, Iowa.
Orvil was united in marriage on August 11, 1951 to Josie Fern (Ferguson), who along with her twin sister and Orvil’s best friend, eloped to Pocahontas, Arkansas.
He proudly served his country by being part of the U.S. Navy Reserves.
Orvil retired from Boeing as a Flight Line Mechanic after 40 plus years of dedicated service.
He was a man of many hobbies. Orvil enjoyed working with his hands and took up woodworking to create finely crafted works, such as the beautiful wrap around staircase in his home. Orvil’s bright mind was always at work and he enjoyed inventing new things. He didn’t just work on airplanes as a career, but he truly appreciated and had immense knowledge and interest in the aerospace field. When he needed a rest from woodworking or inventing, he enjoyed reading a good book as well as watching his favorite movies. Orvil had a strong faith and prided himself in being a Christian. He also had a love for animals. Most of all, Orvil loved his family and friends. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Orvil was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Dollie Meade; three sisters, Ethel Belmar, Alice Mendoza and Doris Meade; one brother, Willard Meade.
He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Josie of Cuba; one daughter, Janet Browand and husband Wayne of Tennessee; three sons, Steven Meade of Higginsville, Gregg Meade of Jefferson City and Glenn Meade of Ellisville; one brother, Frank and wife Beverly Meade of Cuba; six grandchildren, Laura Stainback and husband Kenny, Jeremy Browand, Michael Meade, Christopher Meade, Marcus Meade and Sydney Rosaa; one great-grandchild, Gabriel Noe; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
