Michael J. Dunakey of Cuba, Missouri was born on October 1, 1950, in Washington, Missouri to the union of James W. and Lucille (Licklider) Dunakey. He left this life at Life Care Center in Sullivan on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at the age of 73.
Mike was united in marriage to Maretta Vicky Finn on October 16, 1993, in Cuba. They would have a double wedding with his brother Curtis and bride Karen Britton.
Over the years Mike worked many jobs, including truck driving, wrecker operator and shop foreman at Voss Truck Repair. He retired after twenty years of dedicated service to the City of Cuba-Street Department. In his free time, Mike enjoyed spending time on his farm working cattle and gardening. He also enjoyed hunting in his younger years.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents James W. and Lucille (Licklider) Dunakey; parents-in-law Edward Finn and Loretta Finn; one brother-in-law Tom Olsen.
Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving wife Vicky Dunakey of Cuba; three children Eddie Dunakey, Beth Terrell, Christina (Anthony) Barton all of Cuba; one grandson Dominic Barton of Cuba; four sisters Patsy Brumley of Rolla, Treasa Olsen of Rolla, Hazel Pearson of Cuba, Sandra Dunakey of Jackson, TN; one brother Curtis and wife Karen Dunakey of Leasburg; cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023, from 5-8 p.m. at Mizell Funeral Home.
Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Dan Lueckenotte as the celebrant.
Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.
If desired, memorials would be appreciated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
