Melvin Marvin Makara of Cuba, Missouri was born Tuesday, March 8, 1927 to the union of Thomas and Mary (nee: Bibko) Makara and left from this life on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at St. Louis, Missouri. Melvin was united in marriage to Jackie Dixon in 1969 at St. Louis, Missouri. Melvin retired in 1993 after nearly 30 years of dedicated service to the Federal Government as a Chemical Engineer. Melvin and Jackie received é¢ééThe Great American Familyé¢éé award in the 1980é¢éés signed by Nancy Reagan. They were instrumental in starting the é¢ééHosea Houseé¢éé a food pantry in St. Louis. In his spare time he enjoyed riding his bike, animals and could build anything. But what he loved most was his beautiful wife and family. Melvin is preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Mary Makara, brother Mike Makara, sister Ann Bowolak and other family and friends. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy is his loving wife Jackie Makara of the home, brother Thomas Makara of St. Louis County, brother-in-laws Tony (Pat) Dixon of St. Louis, Missouri, Ralph Adams, Jr., of Cuba, Gary Adams of Glen Allan, Martin, Michael & Brian Adams all of Cuba, sister-in-laws Carolyn (Donald) Bowolak of St. Louis, Barbara (Michael) Zobrist of Cuba, Debbie (Michael) Evans of St. Louis, Sandra (James) Mendoza & Terri (Jim) Tyler of Cuba and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be Sunday, November 15, 2009 from 11 AM until 1 PM at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba. Funeral service will be held at 1 PM Sunday, November 15, 2009 at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba with Father James Finder officiating. Interment will follow at the Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. The Britton Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Makara family.
