Melvin G. "Mel" Keeven of Leasburg, Missouri was born to the union of Herman and Wilamena (Drake) Keeven on October 6, 1926 in St. Louis, Missouri and left from this life at his home surrounded by family on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at the age of 87. Mel was united in marriage to Frances M. Rosemann on July 25, 1953 in Normandy, Missouri and to this union four children were born Donna, Geraldine, Robert and Thomas. Mel owned and operated the Mel Keeven Concrete Construction Company in St. Louis for many years. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a parishioner of St. Francis Catholic Church of Bourbon. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing and building bird houses. Mel is preceded in death by his parents Herman and Wilamena (Drake) Keeven; wife Frances M. Keeven; one sister Dorothy McFate; two brothers Alfred and Elmer Keeven; three sisters-in-law Dorothy Klien, Marie Chancellor and Rose Gelven; five brothers-in-law Bernard, Harold, Julius, Walter and Jospeh Rosemann. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his four children Donna and husband Joe Redel of Eureka, Missouri, Geraldine and husband Gary Abbott of House Springs, Missouri, Robert and wife Diana Keeven of Bourbon, Missouri, Thomas Keeven of Bourbon, Missouri; six grandchildren Katie and husband Sri Budhavarapu, Cindy and husband Dutch Knickmeyer, Jane and husband Henry Pfeil, Christopher Abbott, Rebecca Abbott and Joseph Keeven; one great-granddaughter Anjali Budhavarapu; two sisters-in-law Theresa Winkeler of St. Louis, Missouri, Catherine Carmichael of Phoenix, Arizona; three brothers-in-law Elmer Rosemann of Memphis, Tennessee, Leroy Rosemann of Salem, Missouri and Clarence Rosemann of Bunker, Missouri; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends. Private graveside service will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Bourbon, Missouri with Father Rich Boever, officiating. The Mizell Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Keeven family.
