Marie E. Gibson

Marie Elizabeth Gibson of Cuba, Missouri was born to the union of Oliver and Ruth (Tayloe) Downes on September 8, 1923 at Bourbon, Missouri and left from this life on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 87 years. Marie was united in marriage to Normal "Turk" Gibson on December 6, 1947 at Steelville, Missouri and to this union one son was born Thomas E. Gibson. Marie and Turk enjoyed 53 years of marriage together until his death on November 30, 2000. Marie retired after many years of dedicated service at the United States Army Publication Center in St. Louis, Missouri. She was a member of the Cuba United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling with Turk to listen to him sing Gospel music, camping, spending time in Florida and all her special times with her dear friend Nadine Davis. Marie is preceded in death by her parents Oliver and Ruth (Tayloe) Downes; husband Normal "Turk" Gibson; son Thomas E. Gibson; brother Ervin Downes; sister-in-law Hazel Martin and other relatives and friends. Those who are left to cherish her memory and to continue her legacy are her sister Doris Rohrer of Cuba, Missouri; two sisters-in-law Viola Allen of Potosi, Missouri and Helen Martin of St. Louis, Missouri; one brother-in-law Glenwood Phelps; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 29, 2011 4-7 p.m. at the Mizell Funeral Home 904 W. Washington St. Cuba, Missouri. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2011 10:00 a.m. at the Mizell Funeral Home with Pastor Judy Jeffery, officiating. Interment will follow at Shoal Creek Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri. If desired memorials would be appreciated to the Cuba Senior Center 206 N. Smith St. Cuba, Missouri 65453. The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Gibson family.
