Lillian Loretta Brummet was born November 13, 1921 in Copeland, Arkansas to the union of Maggie Ann Adams (nee: Giles) and George Washington Adams. She passed away at Cuba Manor in Cuba, Missouri on Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at the age of 84 years. On December 20, 1941 she was united in marriage to John M. Brummet and to this union four children were born; Cheri, Buddy, Cindy and Jeffrey. Lillian and John were married for 56 years and 9 months. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and 3 sisters. Lillian and John Brummet moved to Cuba, Missouri in 1948 when they purchased the Central Super Market, later known as IGA Foodliner. Several years later, Lillian and John built the Fairway Shopping Center and owned the Brummet's Food Mart in that center. Lillian worked as Bookkeeper and Office Manager throughout the years and also managed the produce department of Brummet's Food Mart for several years. Lillian was also an activist in the community and worked with many community projects. She reorganized the Cub Scouts in 1954 and served as the Den Mother for many years. She was also active in getting the bond issues passed for a new school in the '50's and '60's, resulting in the school that is still being used today. She was chairman of the PTA at Cuba School in the same years and helped to increase the membership of that organization to 350 parents; the largest in Missouri at that time. Lillian was also active member and officer of the Ladies Civic Auxillary, associated with the Business Men's Club. These two organizations ultimately became the Cuba Chamber of Commerce, of which she is still a member. Lillian was also served on the Recklein Auditorium Board to help develop it into a community building. In the '60's, she sang with the Cuba Musical Group under the direction of Audrey Ove. She served on the board of this group until the group was terminated at the death of Audrey Ove in 1975. Among those who survive to mourn her passing are her four children: Cheri Peck and husband, Michael of Tuscon, Arizona; Bud Brummet and his wife, Debbie, of Cuba, Missouri; Cindy West and husband, Laury, of Sullivan, Missouri; and Jeffrey Brummet and wife, Jane, of St. James, Missouri. Also surviving are one brother, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many friends.
