Leslie W. Thorpe of Cuba formerly of Steelville, Missouri was born to the union of John Thomas and Mary Ann (Whittaker) Thorpe on August 28, 1916 in Nottingham, England and left from this life on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 in Owensville, Missouri at the age of 91 years, 1 month and 27 days Leslie was united in marriage to Doris T. Smith on June 3, 1989. Leslie retired in 1981 after many years of dedicated service as an electrician for The Boeing Company. There he was instrumental in helping build the F-15 Fighter Jets and the Gemini Space Capsule. He had 25 years of perfect attendance, commuting from Steelville everyday to The Boeing Company. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cuba, a practice pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals and proudly served his Country during WW II in the U.S. Army. His hobbies included rock building and a 15 acre strawberry garden. Leslie is preceded in death by his wives Margaret L. Thorpe and Doris T. Smith-Thorpe, step-son Ronald James Smith, parents John Thomas and Mary Ann (Whittaker) Thorpe, brothers John Thomas Thorpe, Jr. and Frederick Thorpe, sister Eileen Thorpe-Fowler. Those who are left to cherish his memory and to continue his legacy are his daughter Diane Whittaker of Santa Rosa, California; two step-sons James E. and wife Elvena Smith of Cuba, Missouri and Bob Smith of Santa Monica, California; one step-daughter-in-law Shirley Smith of Cuba, Missouri; nine grandchildren Dennis Smith, Pamela Darmody, James Smith, Jr., David Smith, Sherri Ziegler and Desiree Northrup, Kevin, Carol and Brent Smith; eleven great-grandchildren Adria, Matthew, Allison, Sarah, Kristen, Katlyn, Robert and Nicholas James, Isabelle Gretchen, Sean and Kathleen. Visitation: Sunday, October 28, 2007 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Britton Funeral Home 904 W. Washington St. Cuba, Missouri. Funeral: Sunday, October 28, 2007 1:00 p.m. at Britton Funeral Home with Rev. Mary Arnold, officiting. Interment: Schwieder Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri.
