Leon Beckler

June 12, 1926 — June 20, 2011

Michael "Leon" Beckler of Owensville, Missouri was born June 12, 1926 at Berlin, Illinois to the union of Michael L. and Effie Mae (nee: Peterson) Beckler and went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 20, 2011 at Owensville at the age of 85 years and 8 days. Leon proudly served his country in the United State Army from September 14, 1950 till September 3, 1952 and then was transferred to the United States Army Reserve until September 13, 1956. Leon was united in marriage to Mildred Mae Robertson on August 15, 1954 at Belle, Missouri and to this union three sons were born Michael, Aaron and John. Leon pastored Broadway Baptist Church, St. James, Edgar Spring Baptist Church, Fort Wyman Baptist Church, Rolla; he served in planting the churches at Kimberling City and Winkler, St. James. He then became the Director of Missions for the Meramec Baptist Association and Wright Douglas Ozark Association for ten years before retiring in 1991. He is a member of the Liberty Baptist Church of Owensville. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening and fishing, but what he always enjoyed most was serving the Lord and spending time with his family. Leon was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle and friend of many. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Leon is preceded in death by his parents Michael and Effie Beckler, one son John Beckler, one sister Virginia and husband John Miller and other relatives and friends. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving wife Mildred Beckler of the home, two sons Michael and wife Connie Beckler of Independence, Missouri and Aaron Beckler of Belle, Missouri, two grandchildren Gabrielle and husband Aaron Woods and Lauren Lawrence, two great grandchildren Mylee and Evie Woods, nephew Kent Miller of Rolla, Missouri and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 23, 2011 from 5:00 till 8:00 PM at the Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba. A "Celebration of Life" service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, June 24, 2011 at the Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba with Brother Bobby Crabb, Jim Chilton and Phil Rector officiating. Special music will be "Brethren We Have Met to Worship", "Because He Lives" and "Amazing Grace". Honored to be serving as pall bearers will be Elmer Peterman, Larry Ness, Rev. Thomas Patterson, John Kent Miller, Rev. Jim Chilton, Rev. Phil Rector and serving as honorary pall bear will be Rev. Don Gowin. Interment, prayers and full military honors will follow at the Ozark Memorial Cemetery, Rolla, Missouri. The Mizell Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Beckler family.
