Kurtis John Schmidt

Kurtis John Schmidt, 68, of Bourbon, formerly of St. Louis, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, surrounded by his family.

On September 24, 1956, Kurtis was born to the union of Kenneth Schmidt and Elaine (Etling) in St. Louis, Missouri.

Kurtis John retired from Anheuser-Busch after 30 plus years of dedicated service. He was lovingly known as “Groovy Dude” by his friends at work over the years.

In 2020 Kurtis had a double lung transplant after a long tough road, he got his miracle and survived and beat all odds.

Kurtis John was a social butterfly and never met a stranger. He could and would talk about anything and everything. He loved all music and was a “Leon Lifer”. Kurtis John was also an avid beer can/bottle collector. He had taken many fun and exciting adventures throughout his life in all his travels. Kurtis John lived a colorful life. Like most people, Kurtis John was never far from his phone, which allowed him to spread joy and love. He also enjoyed anything tie-dye because it was “far out”. Kurtis John had recently started attending Grace City Church and enjoyed the people and hearing God’s word. Kurtis John loved God and his family. He will be truly missed by all that knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth & Elaine Schmidt; paternal grandparents, Richard “Pop” & Alta Schmidt; maternal grandparents, George & Gertrude Etling; one daughter, Rose Ganira; stepson, Joey Hofstetter; father-in-law, Fred Pinkston; brother-in-law, Mike Beeman.

Kurtis John is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia D. (Beeman) Schmidt of Bourbon; two daughters, Angela Roley of South Carolina and Amber Schmidt of Sullivan; stepson, Albert Hofstetter Jr. of Bourbon; two brothers, Kenny Schmidt of Eureka and Eric (Erica) Schmidt of Hazelwood; two sisters, Georgia Arrow of Washington state and Tracee (Dave) DeNuei of Minnesota; mother-in-law, Shirley Pinkston of Bourbon; 9 grandchildren, Josiah Roley, Emily Ganira, Dwight “Bubbie” Rich, Sophia Roley, Abbie Roley, Darius Schmidt, Joshua Kurtis Ganira, Matthew Walter Ganira & Ariella Lee; many nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends. Kurtis John was the best husband, father, brother, grandfather, “Pop-Pop”, uncle & son-in-law this family was ever blessed with.

Kurtis John will be remembered for all his love and kindness that he shared with everyone.
