Junior L. Simmerly

January 24, 1932 — November 23, 2020

Junior Leroy Simmerly of Bourbon, Missouri was born on Sunday, January 24, 1932 in Bourbon, Missouri to the union of Jess Walter and Della Edith (Wymer) Simmerly. He left from this life surrounded by his family at his home on Monday, November 23, 2020 at the age of 88 years.

Junior was united in marriage to Eveline Gargus on March 21, 1952 in Leasburg, Missouri. To this union three sons were born Garryl, Earl and Mike.

Junior started working as a young boy cutting timber with his family. He would later own and operate J.L. Simmerly Sawmill in Bourbon for many years. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post #81 of Bourbon and served as Road Judge for Crawford County District No. 2.

Junior was a straight forward person and some would say, he was a bit ornery. He enjoyed going fishing, hunting, traveling with Eveline and spending time with his family and friends.

Junior is preceded in death by his parents Jess Walter and Della Edith (Wymer) Simmerly; infant son Garryl Simmerly; four brothers Curtis Dale, Robert Eugene, Richard Walter "Dick" and James Elwood Simmerly.

Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving wife of sixty-eight years Eveline (Gargus) Simmerly of the home; two sons Earl Simmerly and companion Barb Courtouise of Bourbon, Missouri, Mike and wife Linda Simmerly of Cuba, Missouri; four grandchildren Jesse Earl Simmerly of Bourbon, Missouri, Jeffrey Walter Simmerly of Rolla, Missouri; Jennifer Lynn and husband Leeman Davis of Warrenton, Missouri, Janey Beth and husband Greg Campbell of Bourbon, Missouri; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Robert and Linda Gargus of Cuba, Missouri, Kathryn Areyan of the State of California; five great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and many friends.
