Jule D. (Wischow) Burgess

Jule Dawn (Wischow) Burgess, 50, of Cuba, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis after a brief and sudden cancer diagnosis.

On February 21, 1974, Jule was born to the union of Steven Wischow and Linda (Wilson) in New Hope, Minnesota.

Jule was a graduate of 1992 from St. James High School.

On February 14, 1994, Jule was united in marriage to Bryan Burgess in Rolla, Missouri.

She had attended Lutheran Deaconess Church in St. James in her earlier years.

For 18 years, Jule welcomed the many patrons of East Office Bar & Grill where she was the manager and assumed many other roles during her time there.

Jule never met a stranger and had the ability to become friends with anyone that she met. As a kid, Jule didn’t care very much to go fishing but as an adult, that became her favorite time to enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the outdoors. Her favorite places to go fishing were Meramec State Park and Spider Creek Resort in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Jule and Dave would travel to Spider Creek every Labor Day weekend to fish and to visit with her friend Tara. Jule loved to take her 4-wheeler for a ride around her property but not for a “Sunday drive” she drove it like she stole it. Jule also enjoyed relaxing on her back porch with her fur babies in the evenings and watching the sunset around her little piece of heaven that she called “home”. Jule enjoyed being outdoors, but also enjoyed being with friends and family. When Jule was feeling lucky or was looking for a good time, she enjoyed a fast-paced game of bingo at the K of C Hall in Cuba or a trip to the casino with Dave, friends, and occasionally her sister. As any Kansas City Chiefs fan naturally would, Jule traveled to KCMO to watch the Chief’s play with Beth, Matt, and Dave as often as she could, despite wintery weather. She loved watching football with friends and family, all while saying, go Chiefs! Most of all, her greatest passion and accomplishments were her two sons, Cody and Brandon. She made sure to attend as many sporting events that she could that her boys participated in, specifically Brandon’s baseball games and Cody’s College Football games. Jule was not only the loving mother that they needed but also a strong leader for her sons to aspire to and learn from. Jule will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bryan Burgess; her father, Steve Wischow; mother-in-law, Lora Burgess; paternal grandparents, Halvor and Silvia (Bhur) Wischow; maternal grandparents, Robert and Paralee (Carter) Wilson; two aunts, Bonnie Minor and Nanc Westlund.

Jule is survived by her significant other, Dave Scott of Cuba and his two sons, Joe and Charlie Scott; her two sons, Cody Burgess and significant other Paige Cherry of Virginia and Brandon Burgess of St. Joseph; her mother, Linda Wischow of St. James; her sister, Keri Drew and husband Mike of Rolla; two nieces, Jenna Sherwood and husband Michael of Independence and Ashley Coleman and husband Michael of Springfield; a great-nephew, Colton Sherwood; two fur-babies, Butch and Buster; aunts; uncles; cousins; other relatives and many, many friends.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Mizell Funeral Home, Cuba. A funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. also on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Mizell Funeral Home, Cuba. Interment with graveside service will take place at Kinder Cemetery, Cuba.
