John W. 'Jack' Magnuson

November 25, 1920 — August 9, 2008

John W. "Jack" Magnuson of Cuba, Missouri was born to the union of William and Anne L. (Olson) Magnuson on November 25, 1920 in Topeka, Kansas and left from this life on Saturday, August 9, 2008 at his home at the age of 87 years 8 months and 15 days. On February 23, 1946 Jack was united marriage to Vera A. Stiegemeyer in St. Louis, Missouri and to this union two children were born Nedra and Joel. On May 25, 2002 Jack was united in marriage to Anita (Martines) Thomas in Cuba, Missouri. Jack obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of South Carolina. He retired from McDonnell-Douglas as an Electrical Systems Designer after many dedicated years of service. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where over the years he served as an Elder, Treasurer and was on the Church Council. He proudly served his Country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, crossword puzzles and his computer. But most of all he enjoyed serving the Lord and spending time with his family and friends. Jack is preceded in death by his parents William and Anne L. (Olson) Magnuson; wife Vera A. (Stiegemeyer) Magnuson; son Joel Magnuson and one sister Elizabeth Magnuson. Those who are left to cherish his memory and to continue his legacy is his wife Anita Magnuson of Cuba, Missouri; two daughters Nedra and husband Michael Johnson of Columbus, Ohio, Toni and husband Keith Beckett of Sullivan, Missouri; one son Ronald and wife Sandi Thomas of Stanford, Kentucky; eight grandchildren Denise and husband DJ Ward of Orlando, Florida, Pamela and husband Brian Snow of Columbus, Ohio, Cooper, Canon, Kevin, Samantha, Cody and Lucas; one brother Gerald and wife Ava Magnuson of Topeka, Kansas; one sister Anne L. Navarre of Topeka, Kansas; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Visitation: Tuesday, August 12, 2008 5-8 p.m. at Britton Funeral Home and Wednesday, August 13, 2008 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Funeral: Wednesday, August 13, 2008 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church 730 Fleenor Rd. Cuba, Missouri with Pastor Jeff Schanbacher, officiating. Interment: Meramec Hills Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri with full military honors. Memorials: St. Paul's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund. The Britton Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Magnuson family.
