John Earl Capehart II

John Earl Capehart II, 68, of Cuba, passed away, Friday, September 6 ,2024 at his home in the comforting presence of his loving son, John Earl Capehart III.

John was born on August 12, 1956, in St. Louis, Missouri to the union of John Earl Capehart and Joyce Ann Ross.

He was a very patriotic person and had proudly served his country in the United States Marines.

John was an entrepreneur, being a proud small business owner having owned and operated Capehart Asphalt Sealing for many years. When he retired from his own company he worked as a Maintenance Supervisor at local nursing homes.

He loved the outdoors which showed him the beauty of the natural world around him. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking as well as leatherworking. He got immense enjoyment by dressing up as Santa Claus each year and visiting the nursing homes to help spread the Christmas cheer and bring joy to societies most precious people. Nothing made John feel freer and in touch with nature than when he was out on the open road upon his ’91 Harley Sportster blasting all his favorite kinds of music. Most of all, John loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and his precious dog, Laney. He was also a very talented artist and had a green thumb when it came to gardening. John will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Joyce Capehart; two nephews, Patrick Cotter and Nicholas Gundlach.

He is survived by his son, John Earl Capehart III and wife Alyson of Cuba; his daughter, Jessica Everhart and husband David of Illinois; one brother, Patrick Capehart of Ohio; three sisters, Nancy Cotter of Illinois, Penny Covill and husband Edward of Florida and Kelly Capehart of Ohio; three grandchildren, Emily Whiteside and husband Christopher of Illinois, Austin Everhart and wife Stephanie of Illinois and John Earl Capehart IV of Cuba; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Burial with Military Honors at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery will take place at a time and date to be announced.

Memorial Donations are appreciated to Operation Underground Railroad.

Arrangements under the care of Mizell Funeral Home, Cuba.
