John Albert Schwartz of Cuba, Missouri was born August 13, 1913 at St. Louis, Missouri to the union of Albert and Ollie (nee: Kohner) Schwartz and left from this life peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday, August 5, 2011 within eight days of celebrating his 98th birthday. John dedicated 37 years working for the US postal service. After raising a family in Brentwood, he and Lucille retired to Cuba, Missouri in 1976. He was active in the Cuba Lion's Club, Indian Hill's Lake Association and Men's Club, Cuba United Methodist Church and enjoyed both bowling and golf. He will be remembered for his flirtatious humor, his youthful spirit and his generosity. He is preceded in death by his parents Albert and Ollie Schwartz, wife of 60 years Lucille Schwartz, one brother Arthur Schwartz and he will be missed by the families of his deceased wives Lavern Ellersieck Schwartz and Eleanor Dreher Schwartz. John was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend to everyone. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his four beautiful daughters Gail and husband Byron Bruffee of Chicago, Illinois, Mary Lou and husband Lloyd Baker of Memphis, Tennessee, Sally Smith of St. Louis, Missouri and Deb and husband Mark Miller of St. Louis, Missouri, eight amazing grandchildren Chip and wife Shelly DeWitt, Steve DeWitt, Dana DeWitt, Tracy and husband David Sungelo, Jackie Bruffee, Heather and husband David Flynn, Ryan and wife Danielle Miller and Katie Miller, ten loving great grandchildren Ashlee DeWitt, Chad DeWitt, Mitchell Sungelo, Erin Sungelo, Addison Hill, Kiefer Hill, Wyatt Hill, Cameron Flynn, Riley Flynn and Ellis Miller, and a host of other relatives and friends. A special thank you to Bert Fulliam-Davis and family for all of their love, care and special friendship given to John these last four years and to Tanis of BJC Hospice for being the special angel sent to help all the family. Memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the Cuba United Methodist Church, 903 W. Washington, Cuba, Missouri. Everyone is invited to attend the luncheon at church following the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cuba Ministerial Food Pantry, 608 W.
