John A. Pinnell of Cuba, Missouri was born Wednesday, May 19, 1920 at Cuba, Missouri to the union of Walter J. and Sarah Elizabeth (nee: Enloe) Pinnell and left from this life on Sunday, January 6, 2008 at St. Louis County, Missouri at the age of 87 years 7 months and 18 days. John was united in marriage to Mildred Eva McCune on June 24, 1942 at Wellston, Missouri and to this union five children were born; Donald, Ronald, Joan, Judith and Ellen. John served his country in the United States Army from September 1942 until October 1945. He served under General Patton, landed on the beach at Normandy, was in 7 different countries during this time overseas and was part of the "Battle of the Bulge". He was awarded 2 Bronze Stars for Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns and the Good Conduct Medal. John owned and operated his own dairy farm for 47 plus years. He was a member of Trinity Chapel for over 50 years, member of the Cuba VFW Post, Crawford Co. Coon Hunters Association and Mid America Dairy Association. In his spare time John enjoyed fishing, hunting, making fishing plugs and all kinds of crafts, but what mattered most was his family. John was a loving son, husband, dad, gramps, great grandfather, brother, brother in law, uncle, great uncle, cousin and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. John is preceded in death by his parents; Walter J. and Sarah Elizabeth Pinnell, two brothers; Earl and Frank Pinnell, one granddaughter; Juella, two son in laws; David Brown and Ed Mitchell and other relatives and friends. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to celebrate a life lived is his two sons; Donald "Pete" and wife Charlotte Pinnell of Cuba, Ronald "Bud" Pinnell of Nashville, TN, three daughters; Joan Mitchell, Judith and husband Don Doss and Ellen Brown all of Cuba, two brothers; George Pinnell of Cuba and Jimmy and wife Barbara of St. Ann, Missouri, two sisters; Ida May Licklider and Gladyne Riddle both of Cuba, thirteen grandchildren; Scott and wife Sandy, Steve and wife Amy, Shellee and husband Shawn, Michael J., Daryl and wife Melissa, Donald and wife Angela, RJ and wife Veronica, Maggie, Daniel J. and wife Michelle, Roger, Anna Lea, John Paul and wife Maria and Margie, thirteen great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation Tuesday, January 8th from 5 til 8 PM at Britton Funeral Home of Cuba. Funeral service 11 AM Wednesday, January 9th at Britton Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Mace officiating. Special music; Blessed Assurance and The Old Rugged Cross, provided by Darlene Cape and Sandy Mitchell. Serving as pall bears are eight grandsons; Scott, Steve, Michael J., Donald, RJ, Daniel J., Roger and John Paul. Burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cuba with full military honors. The Britton Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Pinnell family.
