Jay Earnest Smith of Cuba, Missouri was born to the union of Hobert and Arvilla M. (DeWitt) Smith on March 11, 1947 in Sullivan, Missouri and left from this life on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 67. Prior to becoming disabled, Jay was the Superintendent for the St. James Golf Course. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed working in his wood shop, hunting and fishing and being outdoors. Jay is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Dairl and Dale Smith; one sister Ethel Finley; one daughter-in-law Christine (Gruver) Smith. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his three children Sheila May Smith, Jay Boy Smith and Billy Joe Smith all of Cuba, Missouri; four grandchildren Brandi Jo Smith of Steelville, Missouri, Jared Joseph Smith of Cuba, Missouri Merissa and Tommy Enke of Cuba, Missouri; three great-grandchildren Madison, Makinzy and MJ one sister Irene and husband Hollis Stricklin of Cuba, Missouri; one step-brother Eric Ray of Cuba, Missouri; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends. In following with Jay's wishes, he will be cremated. A memorial service and inurnment will be held at Ft. Leonard Wood State Veterans Cemetery on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. The Mizell Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Smith family.
