James Robert Petty of Cuba, Missouri was born Saturday, May 6, 1933 at Salem, Missouri to the union of Elijah and Nora (nee: Parker) Petty. He left from this life on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at his home in Indian Hills Lake at the age of 85 years. James proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 26 Feb 1951 until 25 Feb 1954. He earned the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal w/3 Bronze Service Stars. James worked as a Carpenter at Mehaffey Burmeister Construction Company for 25 years and later as a Project Manager for RCD Holdings Company. He attended both St. Paul's Lutheran Church and St. John's Lutheran Church over the years. He enjoyed ranching and taking care of his cattle and he had a passion for showing and racing horses. What he loved most was spending time with his family and friends. James was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, great uncle and friend of many. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. James is preceded in death by his parents Elijah and Nora (nee: Parker) Petty; wife Marcella R. "Mitzi" Petty; four brothers William, Ernest, Clarence "Monk" and Harvey "Rusty" and wife Myrtle Petty; two sisters Mary Johnson and Dorothy Wurtz; sister-in-law Dorothy and husband Kent Kimbrel and other family and friends. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are two sons Robert and wife Jeanette Petty of O'Fallon, Missouri, Douglas and wife Stacey Petty of Columbia, Tennessee; one brother-in-law Robert and wife Dianne Fahr of St. Charles, Missouri; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday, March 15, 2019 from 1:00 till 2:00 p.m. at Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W. Washington Street, Cuba, Missouri. Memorial Service will be held on 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2019. at Mizell Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Ed Pederson, officiating. Special recorded music will be "I'm But a Stranger Here" and "My Hope is Built on Nothing Less". Private Inurnment, with full military honors, will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri. If desired, memorials would be appreciated to St. Paul's Lutheran Church 730 Fleenor Rd. Cuba, Missouri 65453 The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Petty family.
