James "Jim" S. Garver

June 20, 1948 — December 8, 2021

James S. “Jim” Garver of Cuba, Missouri was born on Sunday, June 20, 1948 in St. Louis. He left from this life on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at his home at the age of 73.

Jim honorably served his country in United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He delivered propane gas in the area for several years, having worked for AmeriGas and later MFA. He also was a pilot, flight instructor and taught ground aviation. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, horses and building model ships. Jim loved spending time with his family and he had many friends, because he never met a stranger.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents Ruth and Joe Yerkes; two sisters Kathy Koenig and Joan Starbeck; one brother Ric Yerkes; one brother-in-law John Roland.

Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving wife Jeanette Garver (nee: Daniel) of the family home; five children James and wife Brandi Garver of Springfield, Justin Hugh and wife Miranda Garver of St. Robert, Valerie and husband Brian Whitmer of Stewartsville, Alisha Williams of Cuba, Rikki and husband Nathan Hale of Cuba; seven grandchildren Ryan Bouse, Wade Treece, Eli Whitmer, Laine Whitmer, Riley Mueller, Lydia Garver and Rhys Garver; sisters and brothers Sandy Roland of High Ridge, Joe Yerkes of Florida, Mark and wife Jacqui Garver of Ashville, North Carolina, Bob and wife Gay Yerkes of Tennessee, Charles and wife Sue Yerkes of Phoeniz, Arizona, Barb and husband Dan Vega of Arizona; one sister-in-law Stephanie Yerkes of Florida; nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at Mizell Funeral Home 904 W. Washington St. Cuba, Missouri.

Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 11:00 a.m. at Mizell Funeral Home with Rev. Jeffrey Bapst, officiating.

Interment with military honors will follow at Ft. Leonard Wood State Veterans Cemetery, Waynesville, Missouri.

The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Garver family.
