James Henry Gruver of Cuba, Missouri was born Sunday, July 13, 1941 at Cuba, Missouri to the union of Herman and Bessie Ellen (Nee: Pyatt) Gruver and left from this life on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 71 years. James was united in marriage to Verna Faye Dotson on July 27, 1963 at St. Louis, Missouri and to this union five children were born James Leon, William "Billy", Herman, Verna Christina and Vicky Lynn. James ran a logging crew and worked for McGinnis Wood Products from 1969 till he retired in August of 2005. He pastored churches in the Crawford County area for 35 years and started two churches "The Gospel Lighthouse". In his spare time he enjoyed gardening and he grew beautiful roses and other flowers. Jim was always sharing the word of the Lord and truly loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. James was a loving son, brother, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, cousin and friend to everyone he met. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. James is preceded in death by his parents Herman and Bessie Gruver, one brother Herman Lee "Pete" Gruver; three brother-in-laws Bill Lause, Granville Rayle and Harold Studdard and other relatives and friends. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy is his loving wife of nearly fifty years Verna Gruver of Cuba, three sons Leon and wife Kathy Gruver, Bill and wife Eutonna Gruver and Herman and wife Amy Gruver, two daughters Verna Christina and husband Jay Smith and Vicky and husband David Bailey all of Cuba, grandchildren Jenny and husband Drew Weems, Bradley and wife Destanie Gruver, Rachel Gruver, Merissa Enke, James Enke, Ashley and husband Tim Barnett, Clarissa and husband Caleb Loucks, Erica Gruver, Tiffany Gruver, Dylan Gruver, James Ryan Limberg, Brandon L. Limberg and Jaylan Gruver, great grandchildren Jonathon, Madison, Macey, James W., Mckinzy, Jadelyn, Haley, Desiree, Jordan, Jeremiah and Michael, one brother Jack and wife Sharon Gruver of Cuba, five sisters Arlene Rayle and Shirley Gruver of Desoto, Missouri, Louise Lause of Cuba, Nellie Studdard of Pea Ridge and Betty and husband Leroy Hoskins of Cuba, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 9, 2013 from 4:30 till 8:30 PM and Friday, May 10, 2013 from 11 AM till 1 PM at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington, Cuba, Missouri. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, May 10, 2013 at the Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba with Bro. Don Mitchell officiating. Special music will be "Where The Roses Never Fade" by Lula Doyle, "Go Rest High On That Mountain" and "Far Side Banks of Jordan". Honored to be serving as pall bearers are Richard Doyle, Danny Dotson, Wesley Adair, Dale Smith, Harold Studdard and Herman Studdard, honorary pall bearers are Roger Studdard, Randy Studdard, Brad Gruber and Calvin Studdard. Interment and prayers will follow at the Kinder Cemetery with Bro. John Ripley officiating and "Amazing Grace" by the grandchildren. The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Gruver family.
