James Alvin Gilliam, Sr.

February 7, 1921 — June 3, 2006

James Alvin Gilliam, Sr. of Cuba, Missouri was born February 7, 1921 in Huzzah, Missouri to the union of James William and Anne Lee Gilliam (nee: Grooms) and left from this life on Saturday, June 3, 2006 in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 85 years, 3 months and 26 days. James was united in marriage to Rose Ann Killeen on May 31, 1947 in Cuba, Missouri and to this union three children were born James Alvin, Jr., Joan and the late William Joseph. Jim founded Gilliam Electric Service in 1947 and operated the business until his retirement. His son still operates the business. Jim was a parishioner at Holy Cross Catholic Church and was a member of the American Legion. Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was also a well known musician in the community and enjoyed playing his guitar. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, an infant son William Joseph, two brothers Albert Henry and Audrey G. Gilliam, three sisters Anita Blair, Betty Jo Cameron and Rebel Gilliam, three brother-in-laws Joseph Ackfeld, Carl Blair and Chester Cameron. Those who are left to mourn his passing are his wife Rose Ann Gilliam, one son James A. (Debbie) Gilliam, Jr. one daughter Joan (Don) Woltman, one brother Ralph (Rayna) Gilliam, three sisters Edath Ackfeld, Helen (Lafe) Tieberghien and Madeline (Bill) Henry, sister-in-law Barbara Gilliam, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation: Monday, June 5, 2006 from 4-8 p.m. at Britton Funeral Home 904 West Washington St. Cuba, Missouri Prayer Service: Monday 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: Tuesday, June 6, 2006 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Cuba, Missouri with Rev. David Veit as the Celebrant. Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery with full military honors.
