Herbert Wilson Proffer of Cuba, Missouri was born to the union of Kendall and Elizabeth (Bollinger) Proffer on Saturday, October 8, 1921 at Marble Hill, Missouri and left from this life on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 88 years 2 months and 11 days. Herb retired from Wagner Electric Corporation as a Machine Operator on August 22, 1980. He proudly served his Country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He enjoyed watching sports on TV, playing Solitaire and spending time with his family. Herb is preceded in death by his parents Kendall and Elizabeth (Bollinger) Proffer; three brothers Sam, Bud and Everett Proffer; two sisters Fern Stone and Ina Huckstep; one grandson Scott Kirkendall and other relatives and friends. Those who are left to cherish his memory and to continue his legacy is his wife Lucille (Abney) Proffer of the home; ten children Jackie and husband Butch Kirkendall of Maplewood, Missouri, Sharon Landgon of Fenton, Missouri, JoAnn Moore of Overland, Missouri, Karen and husband Paul Heibenstriet of Dallas, Texas, Barb Ort, Chuck Proffer and Steve and wife Lisa Proffer all of Cuba, Missouri, Kim and husband Carlin Dreyer of Affton, Missouri, David Proffer and Lisa Copling both of Cuba, Missouri; one brother Frank and wife Donna Proffer of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; one sister Lenora Schultz of Arnold, Missouri; nineteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 21, 2009 5-8 p.m. at Britton Funeral Home 904 W. Washington St. Cuba, Missouri. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 11:00 a.m. at Britton Funeral Home with Bro. Bob Coleman, officiating. Interment will follow at Skaggs Cemetery, Huzzah, Missouri. The Britton Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Proffer family.
