Helen Janet Reed of Sullivan, Missouri was born on March 1, 1936 in St. Louis, Missouri. She left from this life surrounded by her family on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at her home at the age of 85 years.
Helen was united in marriage to Eugene Reed on March 21, 1955. To this union three children were born Steven, Dianna and Susan.
Helen worked at Mid-West Shoe Factory, Sullivan Golf Course/Country Club and cleaning homes. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Bourbon. In her spare time, she enjoyed dancing, reading and shopping. She was a wonderful cook and she loved spending time with her family and friends.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents John and Melrose M. (Manthei) Stevens; three brothers-in-law Vernon Rector, Raymond Gahr and Don Tucker; one sister-in-law Donna Stevens; one nephew Doug Rector.
Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy are her three children Steven Reed, Dianna and husband Joseph Waggoner, Susan and husband Gary Lunn all of Sullivan; former husband and friend Eugene Reed of Sullivan; three sisters Gloria Rector of Bourbon, Emma Tucker of Lebanon and Trudy and husband Donald Reed of Sullivan; one brother Richard Stevens of Orlanda, Florida; six grandchildren Janet Heppermann, Corey Mueller, Amy Sue Scott, Chris Oldham, Brad Oldham and Matthew Oldham; twenty great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends.
In keeping with her wishes, Helen was cremated.
Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Bourbon 610 Olive St. on Friday, September 10, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Alecia Fischer, officiating. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m.
Refreshments will follow the service in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
