Gene Spurgeon of Cuba, Missouri was born on Monday, May 3, 1943 at Crawford County, Missouri to the union of Omar and Gertrude F. (nee: Howard) Spurgeon and left from this life on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 65 years 5 months and 11 days. Gene proudly served our country during Vietnam from July 27, 1966 till July 18, 1968 in the United States Army. Gene was a cattle farmer in Crawford County for many years and could be found every Tuesday at the Sale Barn in Cuba and on Thursday at the Sale Barn in St. Clair. He enjoyed taking care of animals and was known to several as the neighborhood Vet. Gene was involved in politics in Crawford County for many years and served as the Crawford County District 2 Commissioner from 1987 till 1991. Gene was a loving son, brother, brother in law, uncle, great uncle, cousin and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Gene is preceded in death by his parents Omar and Gertrude Spurgeon, one brother Jim Spurgeon, one brother in law Ervin Hendrickson and other relatives and friends. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy is his two sisters Ruth Hendrickson of Owensville, Missouri and Frances and husband Charles Sutter of Nixa, Missouri, one brother Don and wife Nancy Spurgeon of Cuba, Missouri, sister-in-law Betty Spurgeon of Owensville, Missouri and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation Thursday, October 16th from 5 till 8 pm at Britton Funeral Home of Cuba. Funeral service 11 AM Friday, October 17th at Britton Funeral Home of Cuba with Pastor Woody Martin officiating.
