Gary D. Warnhoff of Ashland, Missouri was born to the union of George and Emma (Marmian) Warnhoff on Thursday, December 4, 1941 in Cuba, Missouri. He left from this life on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Memorial Hospital in Columbia, Missouri at the age of 76. Gary proudly served in the United States Army from 1963 till 1987 and retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel. Gary earned the Legion of Merit, 4 - Bronze Star Medal 4, 2 - Purple Heart, Merit Service Medal, 2 - Air Medal , Army Commend Medal - 30LC, Army Good Conduct Medal, Nation Defense Service Medal, 8 - Vietnam Service Medal, Armed Forces Res Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Civil Act Merit Unit Citation, Vietnam Camp Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gall Cross Unit Citation with Palm, Combat Infantry Bridge and the Republic of Vietnam Gall Cross with Silver Star. His military education consisted of Infantry Officer Candidate Course, 23 weeks, Infantry Officer Advanced Course, thirty-six weeks, Nuclear Weapons and Target Analysis, four weeks, Reliability, Availability, Maintainability Course, Command and General Staff College, forty-four weeks and Senior Officer Orientation, one week. After retiring from the Army, Gary then worked as a Resource Manager for Aero Jet in Azusa, California, was a Financial Planner for USPA & IRA in Rosamond, California and would later retire again as a Kindergarten Teacher from Mojave Grade School in Mojave, California. Gary was a loving son, brother, husband, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, great-great uncle and friend. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is preceded in death by his parents George and Emma (Marmian) Warnhoff; one brother Melvin Warnhoff; one sister Glenda; two sisters-in-law Norma and husband Walt Daehn and Mable and husband Emmett McCune and other family and friends. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving wife Glenda Rector Warnhoff of the home; one sister Sue Burkhart of Granite City, Illinois; three sisters-in-law Elinor Snelson of Cuba, Missouri, Virginia and husband Bill Apperson of Granite City, Illinois and Linda Warnhoff of St. Charles, Missouri; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2018 from 5:00 till 8:00 p.m. at Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W. Washington Street, Cuba, Missouri. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 6, 2018 at Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba with Pastor Gary Mace, officiating. Interment, prayers and full military honors will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. If desired, memorials may be made to the Oak Hill Cemetery Association. The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to serving the Warnhoff family.
