Fred White

Fred White, 73, of Cuba, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at his home, in the comforting presence of his loving family after a long courageous battle with cancer.

On September 6, 1950, Fred was born to the union of Everett White and Anna May (Martin) in Steelville, Missouri.

He was a member of the Steelville Country Club and generously donated whenever they had a benefit function.

Fred worked as a Carpenter and Project Manager for 40 plus years with Southwestern Bell (AT&T) until his retirement.

He was united in marriage to Barbara (Helms) until her passing in 2019. Fred was later united in marriage to Judy (Crisman) on November 13, 2021, at their home in Cuba.

The skillful use of his of hands and knowledge of how things can work and be put together didn’t stop at construction, Fred was an avid tinkerer especially when it came to repairing and fixing up old cars. He was also quite keen on most modern cars and their internal workings as well. Fred had a wealth of knowledge and was always eager to learn more. He put himself through a course that taught him the technical skills of becoming a locksmith which he then would offer as a service to those in need. Some folks around town knew Fred and his group as “the garage people” due to the countless karaoke nights that were held in his garage, where guests were invited not only to show of their musical vocal talents but to also leave their mark above the garage door with a simple signature that served as many memories of those good times and seemingly endless nights of fun. Fred took his karaoke equipment on the road occasionally having setups at Bob’s Gasoline Alley and Johhny’s in St. James. Fred also enjoyed a good game of pool. Some of the best memories that were had was the time that Fred and Judy joined his brother Paul and his wife Lisa on a West to East Coast run for Paul’s job. They got to travel cross-country seeing all that this beautiful country has to offer. A memory that stands out the most is when they were in Washington state at one of the many states parks beaches walking down the mountain side to get to the unique rocky beach. Fred was also just an easy-to-get-along with kind of guy, he would do anything for anyone, and he was always just an honest and good-hearted man. Most of all Fred loved his family and friends and he will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Anna White; his first wife, Barbara (Helms); three brothers, Timothy White, Vernon White and Edward “Eddie” White; one sister-in-law, Chris White.

Fred is survived by his wife, Judy White of Cuba; two sons, Charles White and wife Lucy of Cuba and David McCabe and wife Melissa of Rolla; two stepdaughters, Suzette Klein of Springfield and Chataine Martin of Springfield; four brothers, Robert White of Cuba, Paul White and wife Lisa of Sunset Hills, Bill White of Steelville and James Charles Burrus and wife Josie of Davisville; one sister, Donna Metcalf of Steelville; other relatives and many friends.
