Florence Augusta Mullen

Florence A. Mullen of Cuba, Missouri was born November 2, 1911 at Olney, Illinois to the union of John William Henry and Mable Gertrude (Nee: Jenners) Walden and left from this life on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at Life Care Center in Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 103 years. Florence was united in marriage to Henry Joseph Mullen on June 11, 1928 at St. Louis, Missouri and to this union twelve children were born; Delbert, Joe, Mabel, Pat, Shirley, Estell, Caroline, Russ, Mike, Cliff, Phil and Nancy. Florence spent her life taking care of her family. She was an excellent cook that could make a huge meal out of nothing. Florence was known for her squirrel gravy, fried chicken, biscuits, donuts, lemon pie and black berry cobbler, just to name a few and everything was cooked on a wood cook stove. Florence enjoyed drawing, reading, gardening, fishing, playing bingo and loved playing practical jokes. For many years Florence and her husband took care of Lick Creek Cemetery by hand. She would take scissors and go around each monument just to make sure everything looked perfect. What meant the most to Florence was spending time with her family and friends. Florence was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, great aunt, great-great aunt, sister-in-law, cousin and friend to everyone she ever met. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Florence is preceded in death by her parents John William Henry and Gertrude Walden, three children Russ Mullen, Cliff Mullen and Nancy Mullen, one sister Martha "Leona" Mullen, two brothers Joe and wife Carol Walden and John and wife Deloris Walden, four grandchildren, one great grandchild, two sons-in-law George Martin and Bill Glaese and other relatives and friends. Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy are her loving children; Delbert and wife Joann Mullen of Cuba, Joe and wife Rose Marie "Ree" Mullen of Union, Missouri, Mabel Martin of Cuba, Pat and wife Nancy Mullen of Cuba, Shirley Parker of Dickinson, Washington, Estell and husband Bill Imes of Winthrop, Washington, Caroline Glaese of Springfield, Missouri, Mike and wife Ann Mullen of Cuba, Phil and wife Linda Mullen of Cuba, daughter-in-law Maureen Mullen of St. James, twenty two grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great niece, great-great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Friday, November 14, 2014 from 3:00 till 7:00 PM at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington Street, Cuba, Missouri. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 15, 2014 at the Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba with Cliff Mullen as officiant. Special music will be "Precious Memories", "Will the Circle be Unbroken" and "Amazing Grace". Interment prayers will follow at the Lick Creek Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lick Creek Cemetery in Florence's memory. The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Mullen family.
