Eugene "Gene" Claude Springer of Bourbon, Missouri was born to the union of Claude and Ethel (Williamson) Springer on March 6, 1931 in Bourbon, Missouri and left from this life on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 in his home at the age of 80. Gene was united in marriage to Anne Knoblauch on May 22, 1955 in Richwoods, Missouri and to this union six children were born Thomas, Patricia, Daniel, Susan, James and Christine. Gene retired from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources after several years of service. He formerly owned and operated the Mobil Gas Station in Bourbon. He Honorably served his Country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, was a lifetime member of the Sullivan V.F.W. Post #3987, former member of Bourbon Lions Club, Past President of the Community Betterment Association and Past President of the Crawford County Democratic Club. Gene was a great people person, storyteller and jokester. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing, gardening, fishing, dancing and talking politics. Gene is preceded in death by his parents Claude and Ethel Williamson; one son Daniel Edward Springer; four brothers James, Roy, Clark and Paul Springer. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his wife Anne Springer of the home; five children Thomas and wife Christine Springer of Boonville, Missouri, Patricia and husband Tim Pratt of Steelville, Missouri, Susan and husband Brad Scott of DesPeres, Missouri, James and wife Carol Springer of Saugatuck, Michigan, Christine Hall of Sullivan, Missouri; daughter-in-law Melissa Springer of Columbia, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 18, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church in Bourbon, Missouri. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, November 18, 2011 12:00 p.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church with Father James Finder as the celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Bourbon, Missouri. In lieu of flowers memorials would be appreciated to the American Cancer Society. The Mizell Funeral Home is Honored to be serving the Springer family.
