Dorothy R. Scott of Cuba, Missouri was born to the union of James R. Richards, Sr. and Lola A. Richards (nee: Swanner) on September 12, 1922 in Knoxville, Tennessee and left from this life on Friday, January 25, 2008 in Cuba, Missouri at the age of 85 years, 4 months and 13 days. Dorothy was united in marriage to Hamner W. "Scotty" Scott on April 27, 1946 in Nashville, Tennessee and to this union two children were born Carole and Lee. Dorothy retired in 1986 after many years of faithful service as a secretary at Cuba City Hall. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cuba, were she had served as a Deacon. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, playing cards, going to the boat, word search books, shopping, matching shoes and purses. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents James R. Richards, Sr. and Lola A. Richards (nee: Swanner); husband Hamner W. "Scotty" Scott; two brothers James R. Richards, Jr. and Carroll Richards. Those who are left to celebrate her life and to continue her legacy are her loving daughter Carole Ann Scott of Cuba, Missouri; son Lee and wife Zandra Scott of San Jose, California; grandson James Russell Scott of San Jose, California; special niece Patricia Cook of Paw Paw, Michigan; special nephew Marvin Richards of Beverly, New Jersey; five nieces and nephews, her many friends. In celebration of her life family and friends are invited for a time of sharing on Saturday, February 2, 2008 from 2-3 p.m. at Britton Funeral Home 904 W. Washington St. Cuba, Missouri. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Gary Mace, officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to BJC Hospice of Sullivan or American Cancer Society. The Britton Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Scott family.
