Dorothy Helen Wheeler

Dorothy H. Wheeler of Bourbon, formerly of Cuba, Missouri was born Sunday, May 16, 1920 at Hinch, Missouri to the union of Harley Brown and Marjorie (Nee: Gruwell) Brown and left from this life on Saturday, July 20, 2007 at Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 87 years 2 months and 4 days. Dorothy was united in marriage to Bert Wheeler on May 29, 1940 at Denton, Missouri and they then spent their wedding day planting an acre of tomatoes, which became a tradition every year there after. To this union four children were born; Joe Eugene, James LeRoy, Joy Faye and Judy Kaye. Dorothy worked for the Crawford County RII School District as a cook for many years and then for the St. Louis archdiocese in Sullivan, Missouri as a cook and housekeeper. Dorothy enjoyed sewing, crocheting, her gardens both flowers and veggies. She was an excellent cook, collected angels, loved to be outdoors and would do all the chores on the farm each day. She had a great love for children, not only for her own, but all children. Dorothy was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister in law, aunt and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; Harley and Marjorie Brown, her loving husband Bert Wheeler, two sons; Gene and Jimmy Wheeler, one infant daughter Joy Faye Wheeler, three brothers Clifford, Clinton and Haskell Brown, three sisters; Buhla, Verna and Shirley and many other relatives and friends. Those who are left to cherish and treasure her memory is her daughter; Judy Kaye Byrd of Huntsville, Arkansas, one granddaughter "Her Pride and Joy" Lisa and husband James Turner of Springdale, Arkansas, one brother Tracy and wife Dorothy Brown, one sister in law Betty Brown and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation Monday, July 23rd from 5 till 8 PM at Britton Funeral Home of Cuba. Funeral service 11 AM Tuesday, July 24th with Pastor Don Martin officiating. Special music will be; Amazing Grace, In the Garden and How Great Thou Art. Interment will be at the Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. The Britton Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Wheeler family.
