David Roland Hawkins

July 10, 1920 — April 20, 2010

David Roland Hawkins of Cuba, Missouri was born to the union of John C. and Edna (Edsel) Hawkins on July 10, 1920 in Richwoods, Missouri and left from this life on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 in his home at the age of 89. Roland was united in marriage to Anna Belle Nickelson on March 2, 1942 and to this union four children were born Michele, Michael, Pamela and John. Roland was a graduate of Washington University and obtained a degree in Business/Finance. He retired as a General Foreman from Ford Motor Company in St. Louis, Missouri after many years of service. He proudly served his Country in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during WWII. In his spare time he enjoyed golf, horse shoes, gardening, mowing the lawn, camping with his grandkids and spending time with family and friends. Roland is preceded in death by his parents; one brother Quentin Hawkins; one sister Eileen Leykam and other relatives. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his wife Anna Belle Hawkins of the home; four children Michele Higbee of Dallas, Texas, Michael and wife Pat Hawkins of St. Louis, Missouri, Pamela and husband Dr. William Cottingham of Rolla, Missouri, John and wife Pam Hawkins of St. Peters, Missouri; eight grandchildren Julie Metheny, David Cottingham, Janie Williams, Kevin Higbee, Patrick, Brittany, Andrea and Brett Hawkins; five great-grandchildren Gavin and Blake Cottingham, Jace and AnnaBelle Williams, Eva Leigh Metheny; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, April 26, 2010 11:00 a.m. until time of memorial service 11:30 a.m. at Britton Funeral Home of Cuba with Rev. R. Lee Jennings, officiating. Inurnment will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri at 2:30 p.m. with full military honors. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association. The Britton Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Hawkins family.
