Darrel D. Amsden

Darrel D. Amsden of Cuba, Missouri was born on March 31, 1952, in Redford, Missouri to the union of John Henry Thomas and Lore (Pogue) Amsden. He left this on Monday, May 29, 2023, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan at the age of 71.

Darrel was one of fifteen children. He started working at a young age, helping his father in the timber industry, logging. He would later learn the trade of welding and worked as a welder for several years. Eventually he returned to his roots of timber and worked for Gamma Tree Service in St. Louis. After retirement he could be found doing odd jobs for others and loved to be outdoors. Darrel had a love for tractors, country music, square dancing, visiting the Grand Ole Opry regularly and he was a faithful member of Hwy. C Full Gospel Church in Bourbon.

Darrel is preceded in death by his parents John Henry Thomas and Lore (Pogue) Amsden; sisters and brothers Helen Rudolph, Bobby Dale Amsden, Obie Amsden, Eugene Amsden, Ruth Epley and Linda Meyer.

Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his two children Sarah and husband James Scantlin of Cuba, Matt and wife Sara Pigg of Owensville; four grandchildren Derick and Trevor Scantlin, Madelyn and Makensy Pigg; brothers and sisters John “Wesley” and wife Judy Amsden of Centerville, Coy Amsden of Ellington, Georgiana Amsden of Ellington, Herbert and wife Michelle Amsden of Ellington, Wanda and husband Jerry Landrum of Festus, Brenda Little and partner Joe of St. Louis, Lela and husband Billy Mallard of Paragould, Arkansas, Wilma Rudolph of St. Louis; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.

In keeping with his wishes, Darrel will be cremated.

Memorial Gathering will be held on Monday, June 5, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Mizell Funeral Home 904 W. Washington St. Cuba, Missouri.

Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 5, 2023, 3:00 p.m. at Mizell Funeral Home with Pastor David Gargus, officiating.
