Chester M. Skaggs

July 23, 1914 — June 10, 2008

Chester Milford Skaggs of Bourbon, Missouri was born to the union of the late Winfield C. and Mary Catherine (Haggard) Skaggs on July 23, 1914 in Bonne Terre, Missouri and he went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 in Steelville, Missouri at the age of 93 years 10 months and 17 days. Chester was united in marriage to Edith Pratt on June 25, 1938 in Farmington, Missouri and to this union one son was born Danny Skaggs. Together they shared 69 years of marriage. Chester retired from the I.B.E.W. Local No. 257 in Jeff City, Missouri after many years of service. He was a 58 year faithful & dedicated member of the First Assembly of God Church of Bourbon and served as past secretary of the church. He was a member of the Crawford County American Legion Post #81. He served as Treasurer for the Crawford County Senior Tax Board and he did a lot of community service work including the Bourbon Senior Center where he delivered meals to seniors in their homes for a number of years. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, coin and stamp collecting, but most of all what he enjoyed was spending time with his family and being active at his church. Chester proudly served his Country in U.S. Coast Guard during WWII. Chester is preceded in death by his parents Winfield C. and Mary Catherine (Haggard) Skaggs, one brother James Skaggs, two sisters Goldie and Laura and other relatives. Those who are left to celebrate his life and to continue his legacy are his wife of 69 years Edith Skaggs (Nee: Pratt); one son Danny and wife Sheree Skaggs of Bourbon, Missouri; special daughter Ruth Ann and husband Herman Hoerath of Bourbon, Missouri; one sister Hazel Richards of Hillsboro, Missouri; four grandchildren Tracie Ware of Bourbon, Missouri, Stacie Williams of Texas, Meghenn and Mitchell Bax of St. Peters, Missouri; eight great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Visitation: Friday, June 13, 2008 from 5-9 p.m. at First Assembly of God Church 2416 Old Hwy. 66, Bourbon, Missouri with an American Legion Service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral: Saturday, June 14, 2008 10:00 a.m. at First Assembly of God Church, Bourbon with Pastor James Austin, officiating. Interment: Bourbon Cemetery, Bourbon, Missouri with full military honors. Memorials: First Assembly of God Church, Bourbon, Missouri The Britton Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Skaggs family.
