Catherine A. West of Cuba, Missouri was born June 17, 1916 at Crawford County, Missouri to the union of Rudolph Carl and Alvina (Nee: Wirz) Weigle and left from this life on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 94 years 11 months and 18 days. Catherine was united in marriage to John E. West on April 21, 1935 at the Lutheran Church of Bourbon, Missouri and to this union three children were born Marilyn, Carl and John. Catherine worked as a sales clerk for many years in St. Louis and in Indiana before retiring. After moving back to Cuba, Catherine attended the First Presbyterian Church of Cuba and later Trinity Chapel. She was a 50+ year member of the Eastern Star and a member of the Golden Mariners. In 1999 she was awarded the Volunteer of the Year award from Cuba Manor. She was a Hostess for Peoples Bank monthly Customer Appreciation Day from 2000-2006. She was an excellent cook and was well known for her Apple Crumb Pie. She enjoyed canning, tending to her flowers and in her later years playing bingo. She was a lady of great determination and love, of which she always shared with her family. Catherine was a loving daughter, wife, mother, Grammy, great-Grammy, great-great Grammy, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great aunt and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Catherine is preceded in death by her parents Rudolph and Alvina Weigle, husband John E. West, son-in-law Chuck Stewart, one brother Samuel P. Weigle, three sisters Olga Weigle, Frances Weigle and Hazel Catanzaro, two brother-in-laws Cosimo Catanzaro and James Hamilton Sr.other relatives and friends. Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy are her daughter Marilyn Stewart of Cuba, two sons Carl and wife Deborah West and John and Pamela West all of Indianapolis, Indiana, one sister Betty Hamilton of Cuba, nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 5:00 till 8:00 PM Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W. Washington St., Cuba, Missouri. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the Mizell Funeral Home with Pastor Pat Gruber officiating. Special music will be "It Is Well with My Soul" and "Whispering Hope". Interment and prayers will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to a Cancer Society or Leukemia Lymphoma Society in Catherine's memory. The Mizell Funeral Home is honored to be serving the West family.
