Ballard "Speed" Philpot of De Soto, Missouri formerly of Cuba was born March 29, 1931 at Hardin County, Kentucky to the union of John and Carrie (Nee: Hammond) Philpot and left from this life on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at De Soto, Missouri at the age of 84 years. Speed was united in marriage to Catherine A. Kolb on June 28, 1949 at Cincinnati, Ohio and to this union six children were born James, John, Carrie, Cheryl, Jeffrey and Joseph. Speed proudly served in the United States Army from 4 Dec 1950 till 3 December 1953. Speed worked for Honeywell and McDonnell Douglas before retiring in 1994 from ABC Unified School District in Cerritos, California as the warehouse/ maintance supervisor. Speed enjoyed playing baseball and football in his younger years and he coached football for a few years. He spent hours dancing with his wife Catherine. They retired and moved to Cuba in 1995. Speed enjoyed traveling, especially going on cruises. They cruised to Hawaii, Mexico, Jamaica, and St. Thomas (Speeds favorite) just to mention a few. His last cruise was in 2014 with his grandson to the Bahama's. Speed said "What happens on the boat stays on the boat." He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, great uncle, brother-in-law and friend of many. He will be truly will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Speed is preceded in death by his parents John and Carrie Philpot, wife Catherine Philpot, five sisters Gertrude, Bertie, Lena, Sophie and Jessie, one brother Charles, in-laws Harvey and Myrtle Kolb, James Kolb, Elbert Kolb and Edwin Kolb and other relatives and friends. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving children James and wife Carolyn Philpot of Leasburg, John Philpot of Cyprus, California, Carrie and husband Bob Lawrence of Jamesburg, New Jersey, Cheryl and husband Jay Bullard of Orange, California, Jeffrey and wife Angelita Philpot of De Soto, Missouri and Joseph and wife Lori Philpot of Sullivan, eighteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, sisters-in-law Mary Kolb of Wisconsin, Kay Kolb of Tennessee and Elaine Kolb of Cincinnati, Ohio, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 12, 2016 from 11:00 AM till 12:00 PM at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington Street, Cuba, Missouri. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington Street, Cuba. Special recorded music will be "I Believe", "You'll Never Walk Alone" and "Amazing Grace". Honored be serving as pall bearers will be James, John, Jeffrey, Joseph, Casey, Colton and Christopher Philpot. Interment, prayers and full military honors will follow at Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Philpot family.
