Albert Gordon Smith, 91 of Cuba, passed away, Sunday, March 31, 2024 at Phelps Medical Center in Rolla.
On February 28, 1933, Al was born to the union of Gordon Smith and Gladys (Kraft) in St. Louis, Missouri.
He was a graduate from Webster Groves High School.
Al was united in marriage to Nicola "Nikki" (Kausch) on June 25, 1960 in St. Louis, Missouri.
Al and Nikki were past members of St. Simon Catholic Church in St. Louis where they were both active in the athletic program. They are currently members of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Cuba.
Al proudly served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army.
His favorite pastime was riding on his tractor and tending to the grass that needed cut. The most joy however came from the memories that he made with his grandchildren at their lake house in Indian Hills, where he would take the kids for boat rides and tubing. His goal was to see how fast he could knock them off the tube while they held on the best they could. Providing these lasting memories stemmed from his own childhood, spending countless summers at his own grandparents home in Hickory Hill. In his younger years, Nikki and him did alot of traveling and made it all over the world. They've had the pleasure of going to Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, including the western U.S and the Grand Canyon as well as a once-in-a-lifetime driving trip through Europe to visit Hungary, Germany, Austria & Switzerland with the help and guidance of their daughter-in-law, Aliz. Al and Nikki also used to be very active dancers in their younger years.
Most of all, Al loved being with his family and friends creating lasting memories.
He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon & Gladys Smith; three brothers, Robert Smith, James Smith and Harold Smith; one sister, Elizabeth Sorensen.
Al is survived by his wife of nearly 64 years, Nicola "Nikki" Smith of Rolla; one son, Dan Smith and wife Aliz of St. Louis; two daughters, Kelly Blanchard and husband Mike of Texas and Cheryl Smith and significant other Tom Pfarr of Idaho; one sister, Nelle Zuroweste of Gerald; four grandchildren, Jason Lewis and wife Brittany of North Carolina, Kevin Smith and wife Jackie of Hillsboro, Nicholas Appleton and wife Paige of Maryland and Colin Smith of St. Louis; one great-grandchild, Spencer Lewis of North Carolina; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations are appreciated to the Disabled American Veterans.
Services are under the compassionate care of Mizell Funeral Home, Cuba.
