Shirley Jean Melton of Cuba, Missouri was born to the union of Arthur and Mary (Fenton) Blanton on May 4, 1935 at Bourbon, Missouri and left from this life on Friday, November 6, 2009 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 74. Shirley was united in marriage to Ernest Melton, Jr. on May 5, 1949 in Tennessee. Shirley was a homemaker and taking care of her family was the most important thing in her life. In her spare time she enjoyed the simple things in life, like candy, crafts, ceramics, puzzles, and watching T.V. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Mary Blanton; husband Ernest Melton, Jr. Two sons David and Leroy Melton; one brother James Blanton; three sisters Lottie Blanton, Ellen Overby and Magdalen 郢邀邜Tootsie郢邀邝 Crider and other relatives and friends. Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy are her eight children John Melton of Tacoma, Washington, Betty Melton of St. Louis, Missouri, Doris and husband Thomas Cook of Gillespie, Illinois, Wanda Melton of Tacoma, Washington, Bruce and wife Tammy Melton of Tacoma, Washington, Cenda Melton and friend Eva Moore of Cuba, Missouri, Tina and husband Rick Cook of Willow Hill, Illinois, Keith and Greg Melton (Meyer) of Cuba, Missouri; five sisters Nadine Walters of Cuba, Missouri, Elda Jane Beck of Texas, Polly Coffman of Chicago, Illinois, Carol Brewer of Carpentersville, Illinois, Ruth Lankford of Gray Summit, Missouri; three brothers Art Blanton of Winfield, Missouri, Adrin Blanton of Wentzville, Missouri, Robert Blanton of Rolla, Missouri; twenty-six grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 9, 2009 5-8 p.m. at Britton Funeral Home of Cuba. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 10:00 a.m. at Britton Funeral Home of Cuba. Graveside service will follow 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery, Staunton, Illinois. The Britton Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Melton family.
