Jack W. Powell

Jack W. Powell of Leasburg, Missouri was born January 23, 1933 at Campbell, Missouri to the union of Columbus and Luella (nee: Crawley) Powell and left from this life on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at his home in Leasburg, Missouri at the age of 83 years. Jack met and fell in love with a beautiful young lady by the name of Wanda Potter. They were married on June 9, 1951 in Piggott, Arkansas and to this union two sons were born David and Paul. Several years later they adopted a son named Derek. Jack retired in 1969, after sixteen years of dedicated service, from General Motors. He was a retired member of UAW Local #25. After retiring from GM, Jack went to work in the concrete business, then for an Electrical Supply Contractor and retired for a second time in 1995 after working many years for Don Gard Construction Company in Dexter, Missouri. During the years that Jack worked construction he built, from the ground up, nine houses. Jack could build anything out of wood from clocks to kitchen cabinets. Jack enjoyed fishing, going to yard sales and had a booth at the N2 Antique Store in Bourbon for many years. Jack had a green thumb and spent many hours working in his vegetable garden and flower beds. He raised worms and used their byproduct to fertilize his gardens. Jack was a perfectionist at everything he did. Jack was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, great uncle, brother-in-law and friend of many. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Jack is preceded in death by his parents Columbus and Luella Powell, two sons David Powell and Derek Eaton, five brothers William Reed and wife Naomi Powell, Coy and wife Sally Powell, Bob and wife Gladys Powell, Dean Powell and Glen Powell, sisters in law Lucy Potter and Frances and husband James Pritchett, brother-in-law Elzie E. Potter and other relatives and friends. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving wife of sixty five years Wanda Powell of the home, one son Paul and wife Karen Powell of Barnhart, Missouri, four grandchildren Brian and wife Carrie Powell, Alysia and husband Brian Desilets, Stephen and wife Betsy and Aaron and wife Allison Powell, nine great grandchildren Caleb Desilets, Audrey Desilets, Cora Powell, Livy Powell, Mary Powell, Haven Powell, Violet Powell, Emma Powell and Vivian Powell, daughter-in-law Teresa and husband Mike Coy of Texas, in-laws Louise and husband Joe Buchanan of Washington, Missouri, Joyce and husband Norman Miller of Dittmer, Missouri, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 2, 2016 from 4:00 till 7:00 pm at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington Street, Cuba, Missouri. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, October 3, 2016 at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington Street, Cuba. Special music will be "How Great Thou Art", "I'll Fly Away" and "Mansion Over the Hilltop". Interment and prayers will follow at the Lea Cemetery, Leasburg, Missouri. The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving Jack's family.
